Promises

My masterwork is tightly linked to my thesis; it intends to provide a basis for understanding my diploma. My thesis is about the various forms of voluntary work, specificly about mentoring orphans. I wanted to show all the doubts of mentoring and the dimensions of the mentor-orphan relationship. My artwork goes beyond the thesis that being a child means being "innocent, untouched and beloved". Being raised in an orphanage means being deprived of everything that could make the childhood happy.This is not about the beauty and innocence of childhood but about the rude and rough reality. Sometimes the distance of the mentors gives the children uncertainty that they actually matter to someone. It is also incredible for me that there are people willing to invest time and effort even beside their own family to provide for the ones in need. Mentors would like to establish vision and hope which does not mean that it will be easy for the children or that they will not have to struggle. They certainly have to, as they will have to learn to trust, and believe that they deserve love. And most importantly they also have to overcome the fact that just because they are abandoned, it is not their fault, not their failure.
